The PMAC 2024 side meeting co-hosted by CMB on "Health Systems Resilience and Preparedness in the ASEAN region" emphasized the crucial role that investments in health data and health systems yield significant economic returns, including a healthier workforce, a robust health delivery system, and enhanced preparedness for emerging health threats. Several countries across Asia face challenges in effectively leveraging health data and metrics to bolster health system resilience and optimize health system performance. Limitations in data availability, quality, standardization, and interoperability hinder evidence-based decision-making and efficient resource allocation. Furthermore, the capacity to analyze and interpret health data for policy formulation and program implementation remains a key area for development.

This side meeting will build upon the foundation laid in 2024 by specifically examining the role of robust data systems and health metrics in enhancing health system resilience and performance across Asia. It will explore how strategic investments in data infrastructure, analytical capabilities, and workforce development can empower countries to effectively utilize data for improved health outcomes and sustainable development with a focus on low and middle income countries in Asia. Lessons and experience from other regions including Africa will also be shared.

Assess the current landscape of health data systems and health metrics capacity in Asia: Identify gaps and prioritize areas for strengthening data infrastructure, including data collection, storage, management, and sharing mechanisms.

Enhance capacity for developing and utilizing health data and health metrics for health policy: Focus on building expertise in the selection, calculation, and interpretation of key health indicators for monitoring health system performance, disease trends, and intervention effectiveness.

Foster regional collaboration and knowledge exchange: Facilitate partnerships and sharing of best practices among Asian countries to accelerate the development of robust data systems and health metrics capacity for improved health outcomes.
