This session will examine the role and progress of digital health, technology, AI, and data guidance, governance, policies and practices. It will include discussion of country and donor organizations' engagement in these spaces, trends in their development over time, as well as what is needed going forward for responsible stewardship of AI and technology in health and development. The session will connect closely with the PMAC 2025 Sub-theme 3:Governance, Policy and Stewardship. It will include discussion of the recently launched USAID Digital Policy and the Digital Health Position Paper, as well as the AI in Global Development Playbook. It will include examples of governance and policy strengthening work being done by partner organizations and institutions as well as regional networks. It will also share cases in low- and middle-income countries on the interactive cycle of improved policy, stewardship, finance, and governance to enhance new technologies and new technologies to improve these. It will be shown how good governance though timely policymaking and targeted regulation of new technologies have helped drive efficiency, timeliness and quality of service delivery and system preparedness for public health emergencies.
Participants can expect to understand the experiences and learnings drawn from nearly two decades supporting digital work in the health sector, how that learning informs current practices and opportunities for incorporating advanced analytics and AI, as well as ideas for where to focus a learning agenda for future efforts.
