Digital solutions and data are transforming health systems and enhancing healthcare delivery worldwide. Digital technology is crucial for improving service delivery, health financing, public health outcomes, and expanding access to underserved populations. The future of healthcare is expected to be technology-embedded and data-linked, shifting to an integrated "Digital-in-Health" approach that combines health and digital systems under a framework of prioritization, connection, and scalability. However, challenges remain as many data systems operate in silos, lack interoperability, and fail to provide a comprehensive view of health system performance, limiting data-driven decision-making.

India, Nigeria, and Indonesia illustrate varying stages of digital health advancement and data governance initiatives. India’s Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and Nigeria’s Digital in Health Initiative address significant data fragmentation, aiming for unified electronic medical record systems to improve data sharing and policy decision support. Indonesia’s SATUSEHAT platform under the Digital Health Transformation Strategy seeks to consolidate systems for better interoperability and efficiency.

  • Raise Awareness on the Paradigm Shift: Emphasize integrating "digital in health" thinking to embed digital technologies and data for successful health system transformation, enhanced health financing, and improved public health, particularly for underserved populations.
  • Facilitate Knowledge Exchange and Best Practices: Highlight transformative potential of digital health approaches by sharing actionable insights on comprehensive data governance frameworks and fostering policies that leverage data for better decision-making and service delivery.
  • Promote Opportunities and Discuss Implementation Challenges: Encourage discussions on data governance approaches, data quality, interoperability, and data analytics to enhance equity and health outcomes.
  • Advocate for Global and Regional Collaboration: Provide a platform for diverse stakeholders to engage in rich and lively discussions on the importance of digital health approaches within their respective national, regional, and global contexts.
