Dr. Boonchai Kijsanayotin is the Chair of the Asian eHealth Information Network (AeHIN), which promotes better use of information communication technology to achieve better health through peer-to-peer assistance, knowledge sharing, and learning across South and Southeast Asia. He was a member of the WHO Digital Health Technical Advisory Group (DHTAG), an International Academy of Health Sciences and Informatics (IAHSI) fellow of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA), and a consultant of the Thai Medical Informatics Association (TMI).
Dr. Boonchai, an informatician and physician from Thailand, worked in a rural public general hospital for 15 years as an internal medicine clinician before receiving his MSc. and Ph.D. in Health Informatics from the University of Minnesota, USA. His working areas and research interests include national health information standards and interoperability, health information exchanges, national eHealth strategy, digital health governance and health IT adoption. As the digital health and health data standards expert at the Thai Health Information Standards Development Center (THIS), Health System Research Institute (HSRI), Ministry of Public Health(MOPH), and a biomedical and health informatics senior lecturer at Faculty of Medicine, Mahidol University, Thailand, he has led the development of several Thai health data standards, such as the Thai Medicines Terminology (TMT) and the Thai Medical Laboratory Terminology (TMLT) and promote the adoption and adaptation of international standards like SNOMED CT, LOINC and HL7 FHIR in Thailand and Asia pacific region.
