Sameer is currently leading the AI and digital frontiers at WHO’s Digital health and Innovation department based in HQ, having led the negotiations of the Global Strategy on Digital Health with 194 Member States and provided technical support to over 75 countries, Sameer is now heading the AI and digital frontiers portfolio to enable Member States to embrace scientific , ethical and appropriately governed AI for health and is also managing the Multi UN agency Global Initiative on AI for health https://www.who.int/initiatives/global-initiative-on-ai-for-health and coordinating various AI expert groups at WHO and in other multilateral agencies. Sameer joined WHO headquarters in Geneva in Feb 2008. With WHO, he has worked extensively on strategy, governance and implementation support on Artificial intelligence, data systems mobile health and digital health and has setup several award winning digital global initiatives. He has provided in-country support in over 75 countries across the globe & has triggered several high-powered collaborations and partnerships. He has contributed close to 100 publications, guidance and reports on digital health and AI, has mentored several digital for development aspirants and is a core digital for development enthusiast. He was also the vice chair of the WHO ITU AI for Health focus group and is a Fellow of the US CDC on Public Health Informatics.
